Pradhana Karma or main detoxification procedure consists of five therapies which are Vamana, Virechana, Nasya, Vasti, and Swedana. The post Panchakarma is the following up treatment for getting the best result. The Paschat Karma helps to strengthen digestive and metabolic fire, re-establish physical strength and improve functioning of the body systems.
Pradhana Karma is the prime procedure and the five therapies included are of different practices and usages.
: Using a medicated enema vomiting is induced to alleviate Kapha Dosha and removes the toxins from the respiratory and gastrointestinal area. Vamanam is also best for healing and preventing different problems related to Kapha.
: Through the evacuation of bowels, the elimination of toxins is performed in Virechanam. Primarily, the patient is given internal and external fomentation and oleation therapies and then the herbal laxative to evacuate and eliminate the toxins in the bowels.
: Nasya is the elimination of toxins from the head and neck regions using nasal drops. The medicated drops are administered through nostrils to pacify migraine, sleep disorders, hair problems etc.
: By administering medicated enema through the rectum, Vasti treatment eliminates Vata related disorders in the intestine like piles, constipation, and arthritis.
: Swedanam or body heating removes toxins from the body cells with the help of vapor, produced from medicated herbal decoctions.
