Here is my Ayurveda Experience In Kerala. I have heard and known about Ayurveda for years now. I always cherished a desire to indulge and detox myself in some Ayurvedic goodness. Even though we have access to Ayurvedic products and procedures everywhere now and it is widely popular and widespread across the world, as an avid Ayurvedic enthusiast, I always wanted my first tryst with Ayurveda to be in the place where it originated. The fact that every year 700,000+ foreigners travel to Kerala to undergo Ayurvedic treatments, intrigued me more. So I packed my bags and hit the palm-laden shores of the God’s own country after booking a 14 Days Ayurveda Rejuvenation Package at Sukhayus Ayurveda Wellness Retreat.
Before I jump into my personal experience, I will expound the system and concept of Ayurveda for people who are encountering this word for the first time.
The word Ayurveda is a combination of two Sanskrit words; ‘Ayur’ means life and ‘Veda’ means a body of Knowledge. In simple terms, Ayurveda is a repository of propitious information that could make our lives better, and help us remain healthy by keeping deadly diseases at bay. The system of Ayurveda is one of the oldest existing medicine branches; it is believed to have evolved 5000 years back. Ayurveda is based on the elements of earth which form the building blocks of the human body and the elements are viz. earth, air, water, fire, and ether. When the five elements constitute our corporeal form, the three doshas form the basis of life energy. The balance in the three doshas- Vata, Pitta and Kapha– decides the health of a person. A body becomes unhealthy when there is an imbalance or disparity between the doshas.

Now that I have elaborated the basic concept, here is the account of my Ayurvedic experience in Kerala. When I left my city Berlin and reached Kerala, I was welcomed by fresh air and unadulterated environment. I visited the place during monsoon as that is the time your body is most vulnerable to ailments and therefore, the perfect time to get Ayurvedic treatment that could ward-off all the negative energy from the body and boost the immune system. The treatment that I booked for myself was the Panchakarma or the detoxification regime. The duration of the treatment was for two weeks and that time period felt more like a vacation than undergoing a medical treatment.
The place from where I got my Ayurvedic treatment was nothing less of a luxurious resort but with authentic Ayurveda practitioners. I checked into my room and spoke to the Ayurvedic doctor with whom I had a telephonic conservation before I signed up for this. The Ayurvedic treatments are not like spa treatments where you get what you ask for. In case of Ayurvedic treatment, the doctor runs a proper examination of the person, he scrutinizes his doshas to find the right treatment for that particular patients. Although the doctor always considers the wishes and convenience of the person. The Ayurvedic establishment in Kochi had many tourists coming in and out. The place still offered silence and tranquility.
I felt rejuvenated even before the commencement of the treatment. Over the coming days, as my treatment progressed, I felt more and more happy and healthy.
The Panchakarma Treatment
As I mentioned earlier, the Panchakarma treatment is an Ayurvedic regime intended at restoring the balance between the doshas, detoxifying the body, and thereby strengthening the immune system. All the toxic sediments that get accumulated in our body are completely removed during this process.
The process reverses the past and on-going degenerative actions quickly. The health benefits ushered by the Panchakarma treatment are profound and long-lasting. The process employs a combination of oil massages, herbal saunas along with nutritional directives such as mild fasting, vegetarian food, and colon therapies.
This was a life-changing experience for me. The two weeks treatment relaxed my sore muscles, released the knots in my brain and elevated my spirits. Everyone one should try Ayurvedic treatments, at least a short one, every year. We all owe that much to our tired body and soul.
In Kerala, you get therapy from nature during the treatment breaks, even during it is you are here for monsoon. You will always have verdant canopy and dwellers of it to intrigue and charm you during the treatments making your Ayurveda Experience In Kerala Authentic. You can observe them, admire them, and find ecstasy in them.
The process requires strong commitment, even it is for a short period. It should not be like a diet plan that we fail to follow a few days after starting it. When you decide to take it, commit yourself completely. Ayurvedic treatments require more time when compared to other forms of medicine. Even though the treatment is enjoyable sometimes we might find it less exciting as we are accustomed to a fast-moving world of internet and mobile phones. Do not request the doctors to rush the treatment, try to get it done within the days the doctors prescribe.
